As the LEGO Group entered the 21st century, it enjoyed a well-respected brand, loyal customer base, and expansion from building blocks into theme parks, movies, and even clothing.  But changes in the toy industry were not all working in its favor, and Lego faced declining market share and losses in 2003 that threatened bankruptcy or perhaps even breaking up or sale of the company.  Lego quickly sold off assets, reduced headcount and outsourced production to cut costs and generate cash.  In addition, it began to think more systemically about innovation, which led to 10 years of strong natural growth.

But in 2017, performance stagnated again.  The company needed again to change by becoming a smaller and simpler organization while reducing its position in some less profitable markets.  The resulting initiatives seem to be working.  Fast Companymagazine named LEGO one of the top 10 most innovative companies in Consumer Electronics, along with Apple, Amazon, Nintendo, and Sony for 2017.

Lego Senior Manager of Global Leadership and Organizational Development, Tracy Michaud, SPHR, and Director of Rewards and Recognition for the Americas, Barbara Walton, SPHR, have played key roles in enabling the organization to thrive despite the constant change. During this session, Tracy and Barbara will:
  • Share the research results concerning why the stall-out occurred.
  • Walk you through the re-mobilizing of the organization via the change initiative and the various interventions and approaches used to right-size and stabilize the organization.
  • Introduce a few key tips and tools designed to disrupt and challenge working mindset and ways of working.
We all know that Change is Constant.  Come learn about HR’s critical role in successfully executing Business Transformation.
